Year 4: Class 10 and Class 11
At the beginning of June 2025 we will be taking part in the statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). This will check your child's ability to recall their times tables and inform future teaching and support. See the parent guide below for further information.

We would love it if at home, you shared as many types of texts with your child as possible. Magazines, newspapers, books, picture books, electronic and audio books - they all count!
We walked up to the moors and spent some time taking in the beautiful view. We had a visit from a cheeky pony who was the subject of some of our close up images.
We have had our first browsing session of the term. This is where we look at all of the lovely new books available in our classrooms and see what tickles our fancy. We talk about genres and authors, new characters, fact and fiction - the world is our oyster.
There were no worries in Year 4 when naming and exploring their emotions in PSHE. The children were able to list a broad range of emotions and express a time when they may feel these. All children had a very mature attitude to their learning and finished their learning happy!
Hazel found the skull of a young deer on her weekend and brought it in for an interesting show and tell. The rest of the class enjoyed finding out about where she found it and what she is going to do with it after.
This week year 4 have begun to look at finding the perimeter of a 2D shape. They used string to measure the outside of an image and compare lengths. Over the next week, they will begin to use values in their calculations and compare regular and irregular polygons.
It was a chilly day for Year 4 garden day but that didn't deter them from being outside and enjoying the winter sunshine. We played in the environmental garden, made leaf art, orienteered (before the rain!) and shared some of our project homework.
It's Christmas party time - Year 4 enjoyed many crazy activities including the after eight challenge and a strawberry shoe lace race. Check out some of our funny faces in the games.
The Skipping Ninja visited the school today. Year 4 witnessed some skipping skills from the world record holder in assembly and then learnt these skills in their workshop.
Mia was the school Ninja and Harry won Ninja of the session.
Well done to all the children who took part with a smile on their face.
Year four have been learning about the Stone age, the Bronze age and the Iron age. Today in class they thought about how we know that something has happened in history. They talked about evidence such as archaeology, fossils, word of mouth and old weapons, pots and cave paintings. The children made a collaborative piece where they designed their own cave paintings to be displayed in the corridor.
We are using arrays to reinforce our times tables knowledge. So far we have revisited our 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables.
Arrays have helped us to visualise grouping and understand the numbers that we are working with.
In Science we are learning all about circuits. We have explored the components that we need to make a complete circuit and have been exploring scientific symbols. We used these to create circuits in our books and with the equipment. Then we explored how circuits changed if we change the components. Over the next few weeks we will explore items that are conductors and insulators.
They watched a movie and coloured as a treat.
One described it as - 'Cold, but not as slimy as I thought they were'
'This is the second best thing I've ever eaten!'
'Delicious!'
'Oh, now the spice is kicking in.'
Year 4 have created a steady hand game after weeks of planning and preparing.
The children enjoyed working as a team and playing their games at the end.
In Science, Year 4 are learning all about sound. In class we made our own telephones with cups and string to see how sound travelled from our mouths to our partners ears.
We used a tuning fork, which vibrated ALOT (and splashed us) to show how sound waves vibrate.
We have been learning about how to look after ourselves. We made a fruit salad and experienced a wide range of fruit. They were delicious.
Year 4 had a chilly trip to Bellever Woods, but enjoyable all the same.
They learnt about changes from the Stone age to the Iron age, which links to their current History topic and saw evidence of ancient stone circles.
Children also researched Dartmoor Ponies and completed a fact file on these upon return to school.
