Safeguarding of Children
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed in the Policies section of our website and is available on this page.
We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware that they should talk to adults if they have any concerns. All staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). All adults in the school are also required to share any concerns about other staff members or visitors within the school directly with the Headteacher.
Any allegations made against staff are always taken seriously and investigated in accordance with the guidelines as set out by Devon County Council.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents or carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism through our promoted ethos and work in PSHE.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Laura Handel (Headteacher). Our Deputy DSL is Mrs Nicola Collett (Deputy Headteacher).
Other Level 3 Safeguarding Officers are Mrs Clare Lashley (SENDCo) and Mrs Karen Wright (School Business Manager).
