Special Educational Needs & Disability Provision

On 1st September 2014, new legislation came into effect for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities [SEND]. The SEND Code of Practice: 0-25 years (DfE, January 2015) provides schools with statutory guidance to ensure that the right provision is provided for all pupils with SEND so that they succeed with their education and make a successful transition to adulthood.

At Tavistock Primary and Nursery School our aim is to ensure we maximize the social, emotional and academic learning potential for all our children by removing any barriers to learning and by providing a caring, friendly and nurturing environment.

All our children, including those with SEND, are valued members of our school community and every effort is made to support their individual needs. We support each child’s learning journey through our carefully considered Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP). We work collaboratively with external professionals, such as Speech and Language Therapists and Educational Psychologists, to support each child’s progress.

It is our belief at Tavistock Primary and Nursery School, that a collaborative approach to support for our children with SEND will provide the best outcomes. We aim for teachers (including SENDCo), parents and external professionals to work together closely to support children in achieving their potential.

SEND Information Report

At Tavistock Primary and Nursery School, we are committed to ensuring the best outcomes for all children including those with SEND. We want our children to be independent, to enjoy learning, to make progress and be active members of our community.

As part of this process, we provide a Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) information report to explain how we deliver and implement support for children with SEND.  This report is updated annually.
